Die Publikation richtet sich an Verantwortliche und Akteure im Bereich der Leseförderung und steht als E-Book im PDF-Format zum kostenlosen Download unter www.stiftunglesen.de/institut-fuer-lese-und-medienforschung zur Verfügung. In der Publikation finden sich unter anderem Beiträge aus Sicht der Hirnforschung zur frühkindlichen Entwicklung (Prof. Dr. hc mult. Wolf Singer vom Max-Planck-Institut für Hirnforschung, Frankfurt am Main), zu Begriff und Inhalten der Early Literacy Education (Prof. Susan B. Neuman, Professorin für Erziehungswissenschaften an der University of Michigan) sowie zu ihrer ökonomischen Relevanz und Nachhaltigkeit (Prof. Eric A. Hanushek, Professor für Ökonomie an der Stanford University).
Der Band dokumentiert darüber hinaus die „Leipzig Recommendations“, in denen die Konferenzteilnehmer konkrete Empfehlungen zur Verbesserung der frühkindlichen Förderung formuliert und an Politiker, Wissenschaftler und Fachkräfte wie auch an Familien und Ehrenamtliche in 35 Ländern adressiert haben.
„Auf den Anfang kommt es an! Mit der Fachkonferenz und den ‚Leipzig Recommendations‘ setzen wir einen wichtigen Impuls, damit der frühkindlichen Leseförderung mehr Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird“, so Dr. Jörg F. Maas, Hauptgeschäftsführer der Stiftung Lesen. „Wir rufen alle Akteure auf politischer, institutioneller und privater Basis dazu auf, einen ganzheitlichen Bildungsansatz in der frühkindlichen Förderung zu entwickeln und umzusetzen, der insbesondere soziale und kulturelle Faktoren berücksichtigt. Nur so ermöglichen wir Kindern Bildungs- und damit auch Lebenschancen.“
